AHA – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

16 training hours – Our American Heart Association ® – Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course builds on the foundation of Basic Life Support (BLS), emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. The hands-on instruction and simulated cases in this advanced course are designed to help enhance their skills in the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute arrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.

Audience

Designed for healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics, as well as others who need an ACLS course completion card for job or other requirements.

Prerequisite: healthcare professional

Course format & completion card

Course duration: 16 training hours. (2 days)
Course structure: In the Instructor-led format, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA ACLS Instructor to complete ACLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam in class.
Pedagogic tools: participant manual, video.
Certification: Participants will be given an American Heart Association ACLS course completion card after successful completion of training, and valid for 2 years. SAME DAY CERTIFICATION

Course content

Day 1

1- Apply the BLS, Primary, and SecondaryAssessments sequence for a systematic evaluation of adult patients
2- Perform prompt, high-quality BLS, including prioritizing early chest compressions and integrating early automated external defibrillator (AED) use
3- Recognize and perform early management of respiratory arrest
4- Discuss early recognition and management of ACS and stroke, including appropriate disposition
5- Recognize and perform early management of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias that may result in cardiac arrest or 6- complicate resuscitation outcome

Day 2

6- Recognize and perform early management of cardiac arrest until termination of resuscitation or transfer of care, including immediate post–cardiac arrest care
7- Model effective communication as a member or leader of a high-performance team
8- Evaluate resuscitative efforts during a cardiac arrest through continuous assessment of CPR quality, monitoring the patient’s physiologic response, and delivering real-time feedback to the team
9- Recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
10- Discuss how the use of a rapid response team or medical emergency team may improve patient outcomes
11- Define systems of care
